Outdoor balcony louvres: shade and privacy

Outdoor balcony louvres shade the entire space, provide more privacy and do not permanently block your view. You can close, partially open or tilt the louvres depending on the direction of the sun. We install them in fixed or sliding frames on balconies of houses and blocks of flats.
What do balcony louvres look like?
The frame and louvres can be made from timber or aluminium – the choice is yours. However, aluminium is more practical on a balcony because it does not corrode and requires no regular coating. The shading can cover the entire front of the balcony, the side facing your neighbours or both areas at once.
The louvres tilt through a range of 0–140°. Simply turn one by hand and all the others in the frame will move with it.
Fixed or sliding balcony louvre frames
A fixed frame is particularly suitable for the side where you want constant privacy. If you need to open up the front of the balcony completely, a sliding frame is more practical. The two solutions can also be combined. A fixed frame can enclose the side, while sliding frames cover the front.
For sliding frames on balconies, we use a track system certified for balcony use, with top carriages and lower guide rollers. The frame can slide in both directions. We install the bottom profile on the surface of the floor, so it does not need to be recessed into the tiles.
Fixing balcony louvres to the façade
We can secure the frame to the façade, including an insulated façade. In this case, we use special fixings designed for external wall insulation. The frame can also be fixed to an aluminium or timber structure. We do not fix it into the floor tiles. Our technician will recommend the specific fixing method and suitable division into frames during the on-site measurement.
If you know what the façade is made from and whether the building is insulated, please mention this when you first contact us. A photo of the entire balcony and close-up images of the areas where the frame will be secured will also help us.
Balcony louvres for a block of flats
Shading can change the appearance of a block of flats. Before the on-site measurement, check the requirements with the building manager or owners’ association. If a particular colour or installation method is specified, we will include these requirements in the design.
To prepare the design, we only need a photo of the balcony and its approximate height and width. You can find the practical steps in our guide on how to measure the space for adjustable louvres. If you would like to assemble the frame yourself, you can find the individual components in the DIY build section.
Frequently asked questions
Are these window blinds?
No. The shading covers the whole balcony or a selected part of it. It is not installed directly in front of the window glass.
Can balcony shading be fixed to an insulated façade?
Yes. We use special fixings designed for external wall insulation. Our technician will determine the exact fixing method during the on-site measurement.
Do I need permission in a block of flats?
As the appearance of the façade may change, we recommend contacting the building manager or owners’ association in advance to check their requirements.
Summary
You can choose timber or aluminium louvres in a fixed or sliding frame for your balcony, although aluminium is more practical here. You gain shade, greater privacy and the option to open up the view whenever needed. We can install the frame on a house or block of flats and secure it to an insulated façade. Send us a photo and the approximate balcony dimensions, and we will prepare a free, no-obligation quote.
