Made-to-measure bioclimatic pergolas

Made-to-measure bioclimatic pergolas for your terrace.

More time outdoors. Shade and light the way you want.

A bioclimatic pergola with rotating aluminium louvres lets you change the shade and how open the roof is throughout the day. Let the sun in in the morning, create shade at midday and close the louvres when it rains.

At Flowgarden we design your WIN CLIMATIC S500 pergola around your terrace, the orientation of your house and how you want to use the space. Including measurement, supply and installation, with the option of side shading or sliding glazing.

To start, all we need is approximate dimensions, the location and a photo of the terrace.

Protect your space

What bothers you on your terrace?

How it works

What is a bioclimatic pergola and how does it work?

A bioclimatic pergola is a terrace roof made of rotating aluminium louvres. By tilting the louvres, you set both the shade and the airflow. When closed, the roof protects from rain and the water drains away through the gutters and posts.

Shade that follows the sun

The louvres tilt from 0° to 135°. You adjust the shade without moving your seating.

Ventilation

Warm air escapes through the half-open louvres while the shade remains.

Cover when it rains

Water runs off the louvres into the gutters, not under the pergola.

Evenings outdoors

LED lighting, heating and speakers can all be built into the pergola.

System

We assess the dimensions, number of posts, anchoring and extras for each specific configuration. The design also includes matching the pergola colour to the facade, windows and other exterior elements.

Location

A pergola by the house or free-standing in the garden.

Bioclimatic pergola attached to the house

A pergola by the house naturally extends the living room or kitchen. In the design we take into account the door height, the facade, the anchoring options and the direction in which the louvres open. It is also important to think about how the roof will affect daylight in the adjoining room.

Free-standing pergola

A free-standing pergola creates a place to sit in the garden or by the pool. We design the post positions and foundations to suit the chosen model, the base and the layout of the plot.

A solution for a larger terrace

For a larger space, several modules can be used. We divide the roof and supports to match both the technical possibilities of the system and the planned furniture layout.

Shading and glazing

Choose to suit your terrace.

The roof deals with the sun from above. For low afternoon sun, privacy or wind, the sides of the pergola matter too. That is why we recommend planning them from the first design.

WIN SCREEN screen blinds

Screen blinds help reduce sun coming in from the side and glare under the pergola. How see-through they are and how much privacy they give depends on the fabric chosen and on the difference in light between the terrace and its surroundings.

WIN GLASS sliding glazing

Sliding glass panels add protection from wind and rain coming in from the side. When you want to open the space, you slide the panels aside. When choosing them, we take into account the opening width, the number of panes, the sliding direction and the space needed to park them.

WIN PANELS panels

Aluminium panels with fixed or rotating louvres (0° to 90°), fixed or sliding in one to three tracks. One panel up to 1.8 × 2.8 m.

Extras

Light, warmth and music built into the pergola.

For the S500 pergola you choose extras that the manufacturer builds into the structure. Cables, motor and speakers stay hidden.

LED lighting

LED strips in the louvres or in the gutter, spotlights in the louvres and in the frame, a light in the post. White light 3000 K or 4000 K, as well as coloured RGB and RGBW.

Weather sensors

The rain sensor closes the louvres. The wind and snow sensors open them so the roof does not catch wind or snow. Below 3 °C the temperature sensor opens them slightly so they do not freeze.

Heating

Infrared heaters rated at 1 500 to 4 000 W heat roughly 10 to 25 m². They work best with screen blinds or glazing.

Speakers

Two 25 W speakers hidden in the frame. Play music from your phone via Bluetooth.

Control from your phone

A remote control is included. With a smart unit, you control the roof, lights, blinds and heating from your phone from anywhere, or via Somfy io.

Socket and USB

A 230 V socket or USB right in the pergola post.

Insulated louvres

Insulation inside the louvres improves comfort in heat and cold and dampens the sound of rain.

Two colours are included: cream white and anthracite. Another 17 colours from the manufacturer's palette, any RAL colour or a wood effect are available at extra cost.

Why Flowgarden

Why plan your pergola with us.

Roof and shading in one design

Pergolas and outdoor shading are what we do. So in the design we also consider where the sun shines onto the terrace from, which sides you want to keep open and where you need more privacy.

Designed for your actual terrace

What matters are the dimensions, the base, the connection to the house and how you plan to use it. Together we choose the configuration that suits these conditions.

From measurement to installation

We take care of the design, measurement, supply and installation. The quote lists the chosen pergola and the agreed equipment, so you know what the solution includes.

You can read more about planning a pergola and side shading together in the article Pergolas with louvres.

Process

How the design and installation work.

01

You send us your idea

Approximate dimensions, the location and a photo of the terrace or a drawing are enough. Tell us whether you want the pergola attached to the house or free-standing and which extras interest you.

02

We design a solution and prepare a quote

We go through the options for the roof, side infills and controls with you. We prepare a no-obligation quote for the chosen configuration.

03

We check the dimensions and site readiness

Before installation, we verify the exact dimensions, anchoring, base, power supply and water drainage. We agree on the necessary terrace preparation and the date.

04

We deliver and install the pergola

Once the final solution is approved, we deliver and install the pergola with the agreed accessories.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about bioclimatic pergolas.

What is the difference between a bioclimatic pergola and a pergola with a fixed roof?
A bioclimatic pergola lets you tilt the roof louvres and so change the direct shade and how far the roof opens for ventilation. With a fixed roof, the covering stays in the same position; shading depends on its material and extras. See also our aluminium pergolas with a fixed roof.
Does a bioclimatic pergola protect from rain?
Yes, with the louvres closed, the S500 roof is designed to protect from rain and drain the water through an integrated system. Correct design of the drains and installation are important. Open sides remain exposed to wind-driven rain.
Can the louvres be fully retracted?
No. The S500 louvres tilt from 0° to 135°; the roof does not retract.
Can a bioclimatic pergola be glazed?
The S500 system allows WIN GLASS sliding side glazing. Whether it is suitable depends on the dimensions and the structural configuration. If you plan to add glazing later, tell us when the pergola is being designed so we can check the necessary preparation and compatibility.
Does glazing turn it into a year-round conservatory?
Adding sliding glazing alone does not create a thermally insulated living space. It helps keep out wind and rain from the side. Comfort in the colder months depends on the outside temperature, the sun, how airtight the configuration is and any additional heating.
What size can the pergola be?
One module up to 5 × 8 m, over 76 m² by joining modules. Send us the width and depth of the space and we will check the specific configuration.
What needs to be prepared before installation?
A motorised pergola needs a power supply, a suitable base for anchoring and rainwater drainage. When attached to the house, the connection to the facade too. The exact requirements follow from the design of the pergola and extras, so we recommend agreeing on the preparation before the terrace is finished.
What maintenance does a bioclimatic pergola need?
Allow for cleaning the structure and louvres, removing leaves from the drains and checking the moving parts according to the manufacturer's instructions. Clear drainage is important for rainwater to run off properly. Use cleaning products and methods recommended for the surface finish.
How should the pergola be used in snow and strong wind?
Follow the instructions and limits of your specific configuration. The permissible load depends on the dimensions and structure. In strong wind and snow, sensors help by opening the louvres automatically. When choosing, we check the conditions at the installation site and the required technical parameters.
When can the pergola be installed?
The date depends on the configuration, equipment, production availability and readiness of the installation site. We will give you the current estimated delivery and installation date with your specific quote.
